The Spokane Linux User’s Group has been meeting for over 15 years, discussing technology, Linux troubles, and advice. All are welcome to join us for festive Linux discussion over food and beer, from the grizzled Unix long-beard to the timid newbie. There are no dues or registration—just drop by!
Meeting Times: held the third Wednesday of each month, at 7:00 PM. They generally run 1½ to 2 hours long.
Location: January 2025 update: Our new temp location is: Denny’s on Division (3525 N. Division St.) — in their banquet room.
Jan 15th, 2025 Meeting
Greetings — Our January 15th meeting will be at the North Division Denny’s once again, at 7pm. Look for us in the banquet room. Hope to see you there 🙂
Nov 20th, 2024 meeting
Looks like the Pines / Sprague Denny’s has permanently closed. We checked out the Argonne Denny’s — and would like to give it a try for our November meeting. Denny’s on Division worked well for our October meeting — even though it’s a bit out of the way for some of our members — we are booked in their banquet room for our December 18th meeting (7pm). We can discuss more meeting location ideas at the meeting. Thanks 🙂
October 16th meeting, 2024
Greetings — Our October 16th meeting will be at North Division Denny’s once again, at 7pm. During our last visit we didn’t get to try out the banquet room. Hope to see you there 🙂

There’s a new local speedtest.net node up to help test our connections: select Cutting Edge Communications, Inc. instead of going to Walla Walla or Seattle.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux: The foundation for your enterprise hybrid cloud. Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® is the world’s leading enterprise Linux platform. It’s an open source operating system (OS). It’s the foundation from which you can scale existing apps—and roll out emerging technologies—across bare-metal, virtual, container, and all types of cloud environments.
ZFS File system may be coming soon to Ubuntu as an optional install feature.
Virtualization with LXC and LXD: LXD (pronounced lex-dee) is the lightervisor, or lightweight container hypervisor. LXC (lex-see) is a program which creates and administers “containers” on a local system. It also provides an API to allow higher level managers, such as LXD, to administer containers. In a sense, one could compare LXC to QEMU, while comparing LXD to libvirt.
hope to see you next month 🙂
